Friday at last.  I was hoping to sneak in one more workout this week before the weekend hit, but a late night at work put that on hold.

Truth be told, I could use the rest, we’ve been traveling non stop lately, combo that with late night’s at work and poor sleep, I am definitely fighting off a cold.  I sneezed no fewer than a gazillion times today and used about as many tissues. Yikes! It’s definitely a kick in the butt to remember to eat healthy and keep up with my workouts.

But for now, I’ll leave you with my most recently completed project.

While we were in Richmond a few weekends back, I saw a rainbow scarf at Claire’s that wasn’t worth the price, but definitely caught my eye.  Lucky for me, Michaels was right next door and I found this fun yarn to try and recreate the scarf!

I used dbl crochet front post stitches for the length of the scarf and kept it relatively skinny.   I absolutely love the finished look and have been wearing it a ton this week!

Another fun project off the hook and in the books! Happy weekend friends

this weekend

This weekend we were in Philly to watch the big football game with a group of our closest friends. Our hosts were niners fans, so B and I made sure to represent our city with some purple cans of Natty Boh and some fun ravens inspired extras. Like my diy football inspired manicure and some ravens t shirts.

Two bowling games later, these pretty nails were a bit beat up, but it was still another fun weekend. Now, it’s back on track with some attempts at healthy cooking, workouts and sleep this week. Is anyone else tired of starchy winter veggies? Bring on the fresh summer flavors! Xo

While we were in Richmond this weekend, I saw a fun scarf and in the spirit of spend less, diy more, I opted to make my own! Luckily I found some appropriate yarn during our travels. I’m finding more and more crochet is becoming a meditative state for me. Ice just got to figure out more things to make than just scarves and hats! Hoping to show you the finished product soon 🙂 Happy Tuesdaying!

January 23, 2013

Ya’ll, my to-do list was a mile long today.  Which makes for a long Wednesday with no yoga (at a studio, at least), but the productivity is 100% worth it.

In other and more fun news, I finished my crochet project last night!  I was a little nervous about it, since general guidelines aside, I went from scratch with this puppy – but I’m super happy with how it turned out.  I have this beautiful soft grey yarn that I picked up and wanted to make a wearable, but unique hat out of it.  I didn’t like any of the designs online for what I had in mind, so I just went with what I thought might look nice together.  For my first go at it, I think it went pretty well.

For you crocheters out there, I decided to crochet from the brim, UP as opposed to the top down.  The brim was stitched as one long band and sewed together to make the base of the hat.  And since I liked the stitches for the brim (front post single crochets), I used the same style stitches for the hat, alternating between single and dbl back post crochet  stitches, which would end up being perpendicular to the stitches on the brim.   Since its my first time using any of these stitches, I just sort’ve went with it, without truly knowing how it would turn out.

I really like it!  Its wearable, unique and WARM, a huge plus for the chilly weather everyone’s been having lately.

Its just long enough for my head, but can also be worn back a bit for that slouchy beanie style, or with the brim folded up for a slightly dressier look.

I’m super glad to have it done, although now that its finished, i’m itching to get another project back on a hook!

I hope everyone is staying warm this week, it is COLD out.  I’m ever so grateful to be coming home to a crockput full of homemade soup and the opportunity for some at-home yoga alone in my room.

Monday mishmash

January 14, 2013

When I was in college, one of my favorite meals to get was the pizza burger option.  So on Thursday night, when I was trying to figure out what to whip up for dinner using the things we had, I was a little excited when pizza sauce, frozen homemade veggie burgers and pita pockets made the list.  Super easy to make and probably easily modified.  For this option I kept it simple with  pizza sauce and melted “cheese”, next time, maybe i’ll go for some sauted onions and mushrooms.  Served with a side of my continued obsession, “cheezy” kale and sweet potatos.  Husband approved!

In other food news, while we were out this weekend, I grabbed some Almond Milk GREEK style yogurt to try (for the record, I have not been compensated in anyway for this mention, just raving about something new i’ve tried)  When I used to eat dairy, greek yogurt would be a go-to snack for me.  I never really liked the flavor or texture of non-dairy yogurt, so I simply avoided it.  But this “So Delicious” Almond Milk Greek style yogurt is awesome.  I started with Vanilla and truthfully, its like eating a thick vanilla custard, with no funny aftertastes that I sometimes get with non-dairy yogurt.   I sliced a bit of banana into it for lunch today and it was a nice guilt free dessert.  Honestly, its been so long since i’ve had this kind of texture, that eating a full serving is almost difficult.  And there’s definitely enough there to leave some for the afternoon.  Ive only been able to find the yogurt in one place and we don’t go there all that often, which makes this a perfect little “treat” for those days I feel like being a little indulgent.   Has anyone else tried it?

Other than that, our weekend was pretty standard and a bit lazy.  We got in a walk during some of the nicer – non-rainy weather, enjoyed a few DIY projects and the football this weekend really could not be beat, so many exciting (if not slightly anxiety ridden) games to watch.  I re-established my love for the BBC murder mystery series Inspector Lewis and put together a quickie Champagne Cocktail for a Sunday night treat.   I had some thoughts to get in dedicated workout time, but that gave way to a walk with B and some relaxing.  I am starting to get that itch to get moving and am seriously contemplating my brother’s offer to run a 10k with him in April.

Here’s hoping for a far less tedious and agonizingly slow week than last week, eh?
